tHE sTORY jOURNEY!
An amazing idea one of our WAGOLL team came across was the Story Journey! A brilliant way of bringing stories to life and making it real for the children! Ofsted themselves have stated that the best Literacy teaching starts with bringing reading and stories to life!
The idea surrounds taking the children on a journey as a story is told! WAGOLLs can be cut into sections and placed in various places around the classroom, school or even an external location such as a park or school trip. The teacher and children then move through the story, reading the paragraphs as a journey. If you are clever, the location or objects in the area may help bring the story to life. For example, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' is a great story to be split and told in different locations in a park. Long swaying grass and a wide river are super visuals and can make the story real. 'The Hungry caterpillar' can be brought to life by placing fruit in various areas of the school!
ICT can also be used. Generating QR codes that link to you reading paragraphs of the story would be a great adventure if they were hidden around the school with clues for children to find them.
If you are feeling even more adventurous, APPs such as 'Aurasma' allows teachers to make video links with real life objects using the Ipad's camera. When the camera sees something that you have made a link with (like an image or object) it will automatically play a video you have created (see below)! Therefore, you can place objects around the school and get the children to travel around to find them. When they come across the object, a video will be linked telling a part of the story! A very imaginative way to share a WAGOLL!
